Beginning in q4 of this year, Google will be the engine behind MySpace search. While it’s encouraging to think MySpace usability could actually improve by adding a solid search option, the more interesting aspects of the deal come from the revenue commitments. Google has agreed to pay a minimum revenue share of $900M to [MySpace parent company] Fox over the three year engagement. Maintaining aggressive performance within an environment known for soft lead response will be no small challenge for Google.
Expect to see new options rolling out for AdWords campaigns in the next few months. The advertising network will need to evolve to address the clear potential for diluted views and fraudulent clicks.
