So here I am, a 32 year-old guy telling the story that “in my day” we had a MySpace, it was called GeoCities. To which I got a blank stare. “What?! You mean to sit there as a self-respecting web geek and tell me you don’t know what GeoCities is, er was?”
Now that sufficient time has passed, I realize the real question isn’t “How could this person not know what GeoCities is?” It’s “How could Yahoo! screw up a $3.57B purchase so completely that the fifth most popular destination on the Internet (at one time) seems to have disappeared entirely?” Worse yet is that they threw away the predecessor to Facebook and are now out trying to buy Facebook.
Somebody needs to take Yahoo’s credit card away. (Don’t get me started on broadcast.com.)
