This would all be easier if everyone wore hats

February 9, 2007 —

If you haven’t been following the social media vs SEO / SMO debate that Jason Calacanis brought to a fever pitch Wednesday eve, I have some recommended reading for you all. Here’s a quick recap of the storyline:

  1. Muhammed Saleem to all: Hahaha. Look at this joker. Bad SEO, bad.
  2. Jason Calacanis to SEO industry (after seeing video in preceding post): you’re all dumb.
  3. Danny Sullivan to Calacanis: no, you’re dumb, but I like the way you talk.
  4. Calacanis to Danny: I like the way you talk too.
  5. Neil Patel to Calacanis: How about me?

Ben Metcalfe joined the fray this morning as well. Ben starts by calling for an end to gaming the blogosphere but gives in and calls the SEO industry dumb as well. This, of course, draws a “no, you’re dumb” comment from Danny Sullivan.

I keep my SEO and Web 2.0 subscriptions in different folders for this very reason. They don’t seem to get along. Conference organizers seem to understand this as well.

Someday the web will begin to desegregate, and ignorance will diminish. Until then, I give you Gary Ruplinger.
