I hear the Data Web is nice

February 23, 2007 —

Something happened a few months ago.  Our clients started using the phrase Web 2.0.  And not just the geek-class clients, the real world ones.

Geek vernacular going mainstream is usually a sign that it’s time to migrate to a cloudier, more exclusive concept (ie: Web 3.0, the Semantic Web.)  Being a geek, after all, isn’t supposed to be something just anybody can participate in.

I just hope someone tells me when we’re supposed to switch.  It sure would be embarrassing if I talked about RSS when I’m supposed to be thinking about SPARQL.

Hi, I read your post with amusement. I propose that we index the decades of the Web. Web 2.0 is 2000 – 2010. So Web 3.0 officially starts in 2010. Hope that helps!

I’ll sign your proposal, but it might be too logical. I’m half expecting an O’Reilly type to come out of nowhere with a new, left-field label. Like the Oregon Web. (Oregon being a cloudy place that Californians logically migrate to when they tire of crowds.)

I’m digging into your blog by the way. Good stuff.
