Getting rid of something that works

March 6, 2007 —

We get a large amount of traffic to our development site via design-inspired sources (phpspot, cssdrive, cssmania, csselite, smashing magazine, stumbleupon, del.icio.us and others.) We’ve gained great clients based directly on the design of our site. And we’re getting ready to dump it.

Another way to say that is that we’re redesigning. The new design is more current, more fitting, and more (mo’) better. But considering how subjective design is, you have to wonder if you’re undoing something that struck a particular chord.

I’ll post a link when we launch – you’ll have to let us know what you think. And if you don’t like it, we can all just blame Stefan.

Update: the new site is live. Check it out if you have a minute.

I’m impressed with your site and with 3600baud (the most similar I’ve seen to my own photoblog but better executed and with a better camera in use and well, dammit, better photos) and the design of this blog. Your new site is better than the new Happy Cog, which goes for a similar mood. As I think about it, you may have been inspired by their redesign — the watermarks, the sentency navigation — but yours is a site I came back to again, just to look and enjoy. That’s unusual. So, though I doubt you need to hear it at this point: you’re good.

Adam, thanks a million. The credit rolls to my business partner Stefan Hartwig, though. I’m little more than an antagonist when it comes to the ep photoshop kungfu. I appreciate your comments all the same. Thanks for stopping in.
