The waterstains made me think that the simple background-color links were not exactly straight, ie, some sort of graphic, and when I saw it's simply CSS, experiencing that optical illusion roped me in to look at the site's every nook and cranny. It's definitely more muted than before, yet the site still has flair. The only thing I'm having issues with at this point is the link style using background colors has eye catchers. Functionally, they work. My eyes are caught. The rectangles, coupled with the rectangle blocks over the woodgrain (necessary for readability), come off too, well, blocky for my taste.
