“When the rear end’s loose, the car’s fast. Loose is fast.”
- Harry Hogge
We’ve been through Web 1.0. We’ve been inside the enterprise. We’ve spent quality time with compliance teams. We’ve learned words like tight, solid, secure.
But every once in a while a client drops a request to “just let the community post what they want… it’ll sort itself out.”
And I love it.
It feels like the early days when we were building forums for professional athletes. Prying the restrictor plate off the forum comments (removing moderation) meant some kid was going to challenge the moral fiber of a player’s mother. And all hell was about to break loose.
It didn’t take long to recognize that antagonists added something compelling to the community flavor. And nothing (integrity) got drug under.
Sometimes it makes sense to throw it all to the wind. Let the world say, write, post, tag, upload what they want. Sort it out later.
